Luke Parslow’s SE Heavy Hitter Bike Check
Luke Parslow just signed on with SE Bikes and after recovering from
some busted ribs and a punctured lung, he’s already broken in his new
Heavy Hitter frame and is shredding dirt on it. Here’s an in-depth look
at Luke’s new setup and a few words about getting on SE…

Congrats on your new ride with SE. How’d that come about?
The SE deal came out just talking with Kris Fox one day, and then he ran it past Todd Lyons. It’s a wild team—some badass riders!
New frame with old parts. Do you like to keep your parts as long as possible?
New frame, old past is the way to go. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! And plus, I like the lil’ bends and twicks the old parts have. The Heavy Hitter frame is similar to what I used to ride, so it was no big change—got comfy pretty quick.
You told me you’ve had your brakes for three years. What else have you had for years?
I got my breaks from Biz like three years ago…still running strong. The only other thing that is old would be the chain tensioner—it’s been with me from Gravity Games days till now, all I had to do was change the bolt a few times.
What parts do you go through the fastest?
I don’t really replace that much, just keep it up with some TLC. Unless it’s so jacked I can’t take it, I’ll just leave it be.
What’s up with the pink grips?
[Laughs] Man, the pink grips are all I had in the tool box. I had a new frame and some bars, but no grips. I searched the whole garage even for old ones, but in the end pink won the race! I just look at it like this: I’m supporting breast cancer at the same time!
I take it you don’t care much about how it looks with this mix of colors—function over fashion.
Yeah, at a time all I used to do was black bikes! With chrome wheels or another dark color, so the last few years I’ve just gone with what stickers I’ve had in my backpack and run with it. There’s nothing bad with a lil’ color uncoordinated sticker kit [laughs], and keep the frame in the lighter colors just for a change of fashion. Naaa, I’m about havin’ fun on my bike—don’t care how tight your jeans are or loose they are!
Do you set you bike up any certain way for specific tricks?
I pretty much set my bike up comfortable for me the way it feels good to get on, yeah. I run my gooseneck for you youngsters—that’s a high seat, but that’s ’cause I like to do flip-bars. It don’t matter anyway, lil’ Kyle B. does flip-bars with a two-inch-high seat. Craziness. So it’s just comfort for me.
How do you place your bars?
My bars are normally just a lil’ forward of my forks, but anywhere from in one with the forks to a lil’ forward works.
How do you like your grips—thick, thin, new, or worn-out with holes in them?
I like grips that are fresh, but worn in a lil’ bit. Havin’ holes in my grips won’t last ’cause I’ll just sit there an rip it bigger while I watch people ride.
What’s your seat height rule?
[Laughs] My seat height rule…man, I think that went out the window when kids lowered it to the frame. I keep it just under my crossbar on my handlebars so it flows with the bike, kinda.
How do you like your brakes to feel?
I definitely like my brakes to be touchy so I hit them and they work—not so I have to use two fingers to pull the brake, but with a Gyro you always got to fix them to keep ’em right.
What tire pressure do you run?
Both of my tires are at 75-80psi. Sometimes 70—just depends on my slow leak!
What about that chain tensioner?
Chain tensioner is just a peace of mind really. I know these days you don’t really need it but, I still see people blow their back wheel sideways, where just one lil’ chain tensioner could have stopped it. I guess it’s my younger days staying with me and also being lazy…my wheel never moves.
Do you always use frontload stems?
Frontload stems are the way—it’s not too high or low. If you like a high front end then I’d go with one of them flip ones you can run both ways.
Are you concerned with bike weight?
I was never worried about weight ’til I built my last bike. It felt really good lighter, so really that’s another reason for not changing parts—it feels the same when you ride a new frame.
Do you build and do all the work on your bikes?
Yes, I do all the work these days. My bike store shut down, so I learned how to mess around and fix everything my own ways.

Which parts do you generally go through the most? Pedals, grips, chains and seats
Describe your bike setup and how you like your bike to feel… Solid, so it sounds like a basketball when you drop it.
How long did you ride for Verde for? For what reasons did you think it was best to move on? I rode for Verde for three years. For months I just started not being into Verde any more and there’s no point in being a part of a company that you’re not feeling.
The timing between your Verde online-section and your departure from the team is pretty odd considering how long you filmed for it. Any thoughts or regrets with that? No, not at all. I had a lot of good footage that I filmed over the course of being on Verde and they treated me good, so I wanted to give back and release it anyway, even though I had quit a week before we put it out.
MacNeil seems to making a huge push lately; did they hit you up about riding for them? No, not at all. When I thought about companies I wanted to ride for, I couldn’t picture myself on any really. But over the last few years I’ve been really into MacNeil’s art direction and image and thought I’d fit perfect with them. Plus, I was pretty much riding all Macneil products except frame, fork, and bars. So I just called them and told them I really wanted to ride for them and asked if they would want me and they said YES.
How has the new bike been treating you? Any talks of a future signature frame? Bike is amazing; I’m getting tricks back I have not done for a long time. And yes, I’m getting signature stuff…I’m really excited.
MacNeil has already signed the lease for a Long Beach, California, house…you going to be spending some time with the rest of the dudes? Yes, I’ll be in-between there and San Diego. I gotta wrap up my part for Deadline, so I’ll be heavy on that for the next few months.
Got any quick thanks or final thoughts about your time on Verde? Yeah, I don’t want people to be all salted over this. It was my decision and I don’t hate Cory, Steve or Will or anything like that. It’s just what I needed to do and don’t regret it at all, i’ll always heavily appreciate what those guys did for me, the places they sent me, and the opportunities and life experiences I gained from my time with Verde. Thanks for everything guys! Hope you continue killing it!

Surabaya, Mengunakan trek BMX bowl di Adrenaline Park, Matheus Adi
Wibowo berhasil meraih gelar juara pada kompetisi BMX Bowl Open
(11/12/11).
Kompetisi BMX Bowl Open yang diikuti 14 rider dari berbagai kota di pulau Jawa, Matheus berhasil unggul dengan mengumpulkan poin 79,7. Sedangkan pesaing terdekatnya hadir dari Moonthing dengan poin 78.
Memang terlihat dari seluruh rider yang bertanding tidak dapat memperlihatkan kemampuan mereka sepenuhnya. Bowl yang berbentuk huruf L mungkin belum terexplore secara keseluruhan dan tentu saja keterbatasan waktu. Sedikit catatan, kompetisi ini seharusnya diadakan satu hari yang lalu, namun terhalang hujan sehingga tidak banyak waktu bagi rider untuk menjajal bowl Adrenaline Park.

Kejurda BMX Jabodetabek- Serang Serie 4 BMX Local Heroes Seri 4

Bersamaan dengan kegiatan Jakcloth di Senayan Jakarta, diadakan
kompetisi BMX freestyle, BMX Local Heroes kategori street untuk kelas
open (11/12/2011). Kompetisi ini merupakan seri yang ke-4, setelah
sebelumnya telah diadakan di Lapangan Banteng pada 27 November 2011.
Kompetisi yang banyak diminati para pengunjung acara Jakcloth karena aksi ekstrimnya ini berhasil dimenangkan oleh Andre Gokil dari Depok (Depok BMX/Wimcycle) dengan jumlah poin 220, sedangkan pada peringkat kedua dimenangkan oleh Reno dari Bekasi (IBAS) dan berhasil mengalahkan rekan satu timnya Abi, dengan jumlah poin 205, sedangkan Abi hanya mengumpulkan poin 160.
Dikarenakan cuaca yang buruk, kompetisi BMX Local Heroes seri yang ke-4 ini hanya dilakukan satu putaran saja, dan dari hasil tersebut langsung diambil keputusan pemenangnya.

BMX dan MTB Dirt Jump - Wim Cycle Indonesia Open Series 2011
SPORTKU.COM - Surabaya, Terbagi dalam BMX dan MTB dirt jump. Yuma dan Moonthing menjadi penguasa podium untuk kategori tersebut (11/12/11).
Yuma yang berasal dari Bandung berhasil mengumpulkan poin terbanyak yaitu 79,7 untuk kategori MTB dirt jump. Sedangkan Moonthing menjadi pemilik podium tertinggi untuk BMX dirt jump setelah memperoleh 77,7 poin.
MTB dirt jump, 7 rider dari Malang, Bandung dan Jakarta saling perlihatkan beragam trik untuk memperebutkan poin tertinggi dari dua kali run. Begitu pula pada BMX yang diikuti 8 rider asal Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Solo, Bandung dan Jakarta.

Sedangkan keberhasilan Ivan dalam melakukan front flip hanya mengantarkan dirinya ke posisi kedua dalam BMX dirt jump. Ivan hanya melakukan satu trik dari dua obstacle yang tersedia. Jujun Junaedi menjadi penghuni peringkat ketiga dengan 74, 3 poin.

Sebenarnya Moonthing juga berhasil merebut juara dua dalam kategori MTB dirt jump (77, 3 poin) dan diikuti Dani (Bandung) untuk peringkat ketiga.
Sedangkan keberhasilan Ivan dalam melakukan front flip hanya mengantarkan dirinya ke posisi kedua dalam BMX dirt jump. Ivan hanya melakukan satu trik dari dua obstacle yang tersedia. Jujun Junaedi menjadi penghuni peringkat ketiga dengan 74, 3 poin.
