VANS rebeljam 2011 - the Winners

VANS rebeljam 2011 - the Winners
Posted by Kay Beutling on December 04th 2011 in Event

BMX got pushed onto another level this weekend. The final day at the VANSrebeljam 2011 in Eindhoven, NL was more then amazing. The best pro riders from all over the world killed it in Flatland, Street and Park.

We started the day with the Street finals and after the mind-blowing qualifiers we saw on Saturday, everyone was excited to see if the riders could raise the level at the finals. The 12 final riders accomplished this mission with out any problem and we saw some tricks that have never ever been seen before!
The Flatland finals were right next up. The atmosphere at the Flatland area was buzzing. Tons of great lines with such a big amount of style and flow went down. The VANS rebeljam 2011 finished up with the highly anticipated Park finals.
The 92 riders in the qualifiers showed some amazing riding. The 24 finalists pushed the limits for one last time. A seventeen-year-old by the name Daniel Saldovan shut down the event with an 720 Whip to Barspin! Footage will hit the web very soon.

Last but not least we have the results for Flatland, Street and Park. The flat and park riders got judged in the unique rebeljam judging-format, considering Hard Trick, Style and Creativity. The Street contest was judged for Hard Trick.
We are looking back to an amazing weekend with tons of good riding, good times and a great atmosphere!

Interview-Christian Rigal

http://unitedbikeco.com/team/christian-rigal/#

 Interview

What first got you into riding?
I always enjoyed riding bikes but I’m pretty sure I just saw the X games on TV and instantly got hooked.
Out of all your video parts, web edits etc, do you have a favourite clip ever?
Shoot that’s a hard one. It would have to be a clip I just got for the United Downtime DVD. I had to do a night mission at 1.00am to bondo a couple cracks and dig out a planter box to move it. I think it’s gonna end up being my banger too so I’m hyped!
What’s an average day in the life of Christian Rigal like?
I’ll usually wake up around 10.00am, shower, have a smoke, eat and catch up on some web videos and emails. After that I’ll usually try and call up some friends and see who’s around and who wants to ride. I prefer to go out an ride street all day but on a lazy day I’m always down for a park sesh. After a long day of riding/filming (everyday is usually split doing both) I’ll head back home, eat, hang out with some friends and play ping pong or skate the mini ramp. If there’s a party nearby we’ll go to that. If not, there’s a rad bar down the road that we can ride to.
If you had to choose one spot to ride for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Dang I hope that never happens. I’d have to said UCSD. That campus is massive and literally has every kind of obstacle you could want to ride.
What’s the best thing about where you currently live?
Everything! The weather, spots, people, girls, Mexican food, San Diego has everything I need!
What’s the worst thing about where you currently live?
The spots are so good that they’re starting to disappear little by little.
What was the first contest you rode in, and where did you place?
It was a Biketoberfest contest in San Diego. I was probably about 17 and I have no idea what I placed, it was fun though! I’d have to say I definitely prefer a film-based contest or a true jam format.
What was your bike set up and clothing of choice at the time?
Haha! A Fit S3 Aitken with brakes and no pegs. I probably had on and old ass t-shirt that was too small for me and some baggy jeans. Oh how the times have changed!
What is your favourite and least favourite BMX related fad?
Hmm, it’s rad that eveyone is getting into 4 pegs, that’s something I never thought would happen. Something we can do without would probably have to be the scooter frames/squeaky brake robots.
If you could be ‘pro’ in any other sport what would it be and why?
Haha, I’d have to say skateboarding for the spots. They can session flat ground, a curb, or a basic rail for hours. That just seems like so much fun. Plus I’ve always loved skating and I’ve never been good. That would be awesome!
Do you have any specific rituals or things you do before doing tricks / things you are scared of?
Haha yeahh kinda. If it’s something scary, I have to listen to my iPod while I’m filming, just one song though. Before I go, I’ll just roll around (pretty much in a circle) until it kicks in and then I’m doing it. If I don’t have a good song I just think too much and I can’t get myself to try something. Weird, but it’s been working for me!
What was the scariest thing you ever done on your bike?
Looking back I honestly felt like the one thing I filmed that I really thought I could get messed up on was backflipping into a ditch in Treasure Island. I learned how to flip a box a couple years ago but rarely ever do them. We rolled up on this spot that had a dirt jump lip into a ditch with a banked landing. It jumped pretty well but the lip was really shady. I always tell myself with flips that if I just do the same thing I always do it’ll work. The whole no warm-up thing makes flips really scary for me but somehow it worked out first go. The whole time I couldn’t help but picture myself ejecting in the middle of a flip and getting murked. Luckily I didn’t!
Outside of BMX, what is your favourite way to waste time?
It all depends on where I am. In SD I don’t do much except ride and film. I probably skate more then anything else. When I go back to Nor Cal I love going on hikes in the forest, nothing beats that on a lazy day!
Favorite Vehicle?
I truly miss my 04 BMW 530i.
Top 5 Riders?

The Van Homan Archives

The journey of a professional bike rider is not limited to just riding. Sure, the riding part is very important, but there is a whole lot more that comes along with it. There are highs, lows, great memories, friendships and a wide array of experiences in between.
I was recently flipping through an old Ride BMX mag and caught a glimpse of Van Homan shooting photos in the background. This set off a light bulb in my head and lead me to think that Van must have some amazing stuff in his archives, considering he was into photography at one point. So, I hit Van up to inquire about all this along with the possibility of running a feature. He said he would look around and get back to me. Sweet!
A few days later, Van called me up and said that he had come across some cool photos, in addition to a whole bunch of random things from his past. He offered to send me a package of stuff (yes, actual prints and personal belongings), and I said hell yeah! I busted out my scanner for the first time in Defgrip history and went to work.
In this feature, you will see a bunch of old photos that Van has taken, as well as some cool random stuff from his legendary career. Definitely a trip down memory lane.
A special thanks goes out to Van Homan for putting this together, writing captions and having the foresight to save some of this stuff.
Click on through and enjoy.

Dillon Lloyd Update From Macneil Bmx

Anda punya perjalanan besar Eropa datang segera.

Dillon has had a pretty busy year so far. Between contests, traveling, and moving, we caught up with him to get a quick update.

You’ve been pretty busy. In the middle on filming for The Hunt you moved from the Montreal area to Vancouver. How has the change been?

Ya, filming for The Hunt was fun just finding and riding new spots is the best so it made filming and riding alot more fun, and the change has been amazing. Just riding in the city or anywhere and being able to see the moutains all the time makes everything you do and think so much sicker, and also all the amazing street spots and skateparks.

What’s become of your cars in Quebec, how many do you have now and what are/were you driving before you left?

Right now I’m driving my 1989 BMX 325i stripped cagged and race ready everyday now. Since I have been down in Montreal it’s hard to drive normal when all you want to do is drift and speed everywhere. Just got myself out of a $1000 ticket and losing my lisence with my charm for doing donuts. Thank god for female cops. Before I left I also had anther BMW. A 1991 325i and a beater Civic that I sold to travel and bike.

You obviously put a ton of work in filming for your part in The Hunt with Jeremy Deme. What was the experience like?

Ya I just had lots of fun riding and on the sidelines watching Jeremy do all his magic on the camera and editing and also joking around and just having the funnest time.

How psyched were you when you heard you got second place amongst some pretty heavy hitters?

Ya for sure. I would have been super stoked just making it in the top ten and was just a hundred times more stoked finding out I got second.

How was the Taz contest? Second place two years in a row is definitely not something to complain about. How hard did that truck to flat over the quarter pipe hurt?

Can’t complain. The truck hurt my back a bit only because it was fucked from landing on it earlier from a pegs to hard 180, but besides that I was fine.

You’ve got a big European trip coming up soon. What are your plans there?

Just to have fun, party, meet Euro chicks and bang shit out on the bike.

Any other plans for the rest of the winter?

Just ride as much as possible besides that not really.

Cara Paling Aman Ngunci Sepeda Anda!!!

In addition to firefighters, would not there someone else who can steal your bike is locked in this way .. hehe

Karya Seni yang Menakjubkan, Terbuat Hanya dari Paku dan Benang (Amazing Art Work, Made Only of Nails and Yarn)

Two artists, Pamela Campagna and her husband, Thomas Scheiderbauer, nails and thread have been made into a work of interest. Both make the complicated tangle of yarn and thus forming an image based on old family photographs.
Imagination and creations that they have indeed should be appreciated, the above painting is made of thousands of nails and yarn is woven in such a complex. They take up to a month to do each of their artwork.
In the manufacturing process, the first thing they did was analyze the images, draw the pattern, tacking the canvas according to the pattern, then connect the nail with braided yarn.
Campagna and Scheiderbauer not the first to create artwork by using nails and string, but the art they produce is very detailed and detail.
